FO Friday: Lots of Socks!

Exciting news! I’ve finished up two yummy pairs of socks!

I’m so excited! This was my first pair of toe-up socks, and I dyed the yarn myself. I love the look of the band toe, but I’m not sure if I’m sold on doing socks toe-up. It’s true that you can more closely monitor your yarn usage, but the bind-off is inevitably tighter than the (cuff-down) cast on, so it’s a toss-up!

I used the basic sock pattern by Churchmouse Yarns (these were a demo for a class I was teaching), and it’s just a great, simple pattern with lots of options. I knit these socks on size 3s and with a sport weight yarn. They’re slightly thicker than your average sock, but warm and snuggly!

Market Bag

Okay, so it’s not a sock…

This bag is the Rutabaga Bag from The Best of Knitscene… and it’s a great bag for summer! I used 2 skeins of CEY Provence, a worsted-weight cotton yarn (400 yards total).

Have a great weekend!

I hope you have an awesome and craft-filled weekend!

  1. I’ve never done toe-ups, but I’m more scared of the cast-on than the bind-off… Have you tried Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off? ( I used her stretchy cast-on and found it to be extremely stretchy and gave a pretty result…

    • Yeah, you’re right… I might have to do a stretchy-er bind off. I just did a regular-stretchy one 🙂

  2. I love that you made the arches of the socks a different color. I like toe up socks because I tend to blow out the toes of socks. By starting them from that point, they’re a little more durable.

  3. That market bag looks so fun! I’m also still in love with the stripy socks!

  4. Great socks … now I’m craving something refreshing like popsicles or Kool-Aid LOL. Perfect for the summer weather!

  5. I love the socks and the bag! Socks are going to be my next knitting project. I just ordered the supplies and are waiting for them to arrive.

  6. I always do toe up socks and felt like you after my first pair. Then I discovered Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off. There is nothing stretchier!
