Baby Bear Booties – a free felt booties pattern

Baby Bear Booties - a free pattern from Shiny Happy World

I’ve been meaning to make some little felt baby booties for a while now. A friend of mine just had a baby shower so the time was finally right for you all to get the free felt booties pattern I’ve had in my head for so long. 🙂

These were really easy to stitch up – and it was all handsewing so it was perfect to work on while I watched TV. (Foyle’s War and The Good Wife are our current obsessions.)

The pattern is free!

I used copper felt for the bear – and I think that color would look great with just about any color for the shoe – love bug blue, blue bayou, ragtime blue, fuchsia, shocking pink, lavender, banana cream, Georgia peach. They’d all be adorable!

Happy stitching!

Thanks for the bootie pattern! These are so cute!! And the timing is perfect… my nephew’s wife is having their first baby any day now, and these will make an adorable gift! Are they sized to fit a newborn, or are they for an older baby? (like 0-3 mos?)

Hope you are truly feeling better, and not pushing yourself too hard. As anxious as we all are to hear from you through your blog and your amazing patterns, I think all of us would rather you first take time to feel better and let your body rest and heal.

    • Thanks! I didn’t have a handy newborn to try the booties on – but I looked up baby foot sizes and they should fit a 0-3 month baby. 🙂

    Cannot download bootie pattern

    • I just tested it and it’s working fine. My guess would be an incompatability between your version of your browser and this version of the PDF. Please try the tips on the FAQ page here under “When I try to download my pattern it doesn’t work.”

Why do you cut the back off behind the face? Won’t you be able to see the stitches when you look inside the bootie? Is it just too thick? I’m in the process of making them right now and just came to that step. Love your work and site!

    • I didn’t want an extra layer of green to show in the seam at the front of the bootie – and I didn’t want them to be at all thick or stiff. You can try leaving it in and see what you think – I’m all about experimenting. 🙂

    Pretty little things.
What thickness of felt would you recommend, I’ve seen 1,2 and 3 mm.
Would you recommend 100% wool felt or is there something softer.

    • Thanks! I use a wool/rayon blend and the thickness varies a bit with the blend and the color, but it’s a pretty standard thickness. The thicker-than-usual felt would work too – but it’s a lot more expensive. 🙂

Have you make these from fleece? Was wondering since they might be warmer. Thanks!

    • I haven’t tested it, but I think fleece would work great! You might need to stabilize the cut edges around the back of the foot with some blanket stitching to keep them from stretching too much – just test it and see!

I also could not download but held my finger on the link for a few seconds until some options came up. I chose, ” open in a new browser window.” It immediately downloaded! It didn’t open in a new window but that’s fine, I just wanted it to download!
    Weird.
Thank you for the cute pattern!
