I made another dress!

Now that I have a pattern drafted (copying my favorite store-bought dress, the purple one in this post) I want to make ALL THE DRESSES!

My first make was this dress, made in fabric I designed myself. It’s my new favorite, and I get compliments every time I wear it – something that never happened when I wore my old pre-Wardrobe-Project uniform.

I wore that dress to a soccer game recently. It was cool and comfortable – and it also exactly matched the colors of our opponent that day. A sports faux pas! 😂

So my next dress needed to be made especially for wearing to Portland Thorns games. I have a Thorns jersey, but I don’t like wearing it because it’s too tight and it only looks good with hard pants.

I wanted fabric with roses or thorns on it, and found this giant rose print on Spoonflower.

Perfect!

Except that the print is really large and has a really clearly defined stripe in the stems. I wanted that stripe to run dead center down the sleeves, and also – even more importantly – down the center front of the dress.

Which meant I couldn’t lay out the fabric in the most efficient way possible. 🙁

I almost had it! But I couldn’t quite get the second sleeve cut out of a single piece of fabric.

I had to piece together some scraps – but I managed to match the pattern and tuck the second seam near the main underarm seam, where nobody will ever see it, unless I make a deliberate effort to show it to you.

Like I did here. 😂

And now I have a finished rose dress!

There’s a shop down the street from me that sells the most lovely super-lightweight scarves, and they had one in just the right shade of red.

The pants are the Nocturne Pajamas pattern from Sew Liberated, made in tencel twill. I posted about them here.

I’m ready for a soccer game!

Next up, a dress in this fabric for Timbers games, and one in this fabric just because I love it. Both fabrics just need a few more weeks of being tossed in with my regular laundry. I’ve learned to pre-wash linen a kajillion times. 🙂
