I’d love to come teach at your guild! Thanks so much for thinking of me. 🙂
Lectures
Lectures are 45 minutes with slides. I bring a selection of quilts related to the topic so people can get up close and personal with them before and after the presentation.
Playing with Color
My mother always said that red and pink don’t go together. The Official Quilting Rules say you must use a complete range of light to dark shades. The Fashion Police say you shouldn’t mix prints.
I say Rules Schmules! Use the colors and prints that make your heart sing!
With a little bit of thought and planning you can break all the color rules and create a palette that works well for your project. In this lecture I share the guidelines I’ve developed for my own work and the process I go through for each quilt – with tips to help you adapt that process to your own work.
Machine Quilting Made Easy
I love hand quilting – but I also enjoy finishing more than a couple of quilts a year. 🙂
Machine quilting is definitely faster than doing all the stitching by hand – but it can also be hard on the neck and shoulders.
Over the years I’ve been refining and refining my machine quilting techniques to make the process as easy, as fun, and as painless as possible. In this lecture I’ll show you the method I use today – a Quilt As You Go technique where I do everything backwards.
My Creative Journey
I never went to art school, but now I’m a professional artist. I never took home ec and I didn’t learn to sew at my mother’s (or grandmother’s) knee, but now I’m a professional quilt designer and teacher. In this lecture I’ll take you along on my creative journey, sharing how I learned to sew, my first disastrous projects, how I got better, and how I found my artistic voice along the way.
Workshops
Applique Made Easy
Use Quilt As You Go and fusible adhesive to make a fast, easy and fun applique quilt. Students will learn several patterns for quilting the blocks, as well as an easy method for applique with fusible adhesive and tips and tricks for topstitching. We’ll also demo trimming and joining the blocks, basting, and final quilting. Students will leave the class with several finished quilted and appliqued blocks, ready to join into a fun and cuddly quilt top.
Can be a 3-hour or 6-hour workshop. In a 6-hour workshop students will be able to finish more blocks and have more opportunity for experimentation and interaction.
Required purchase – any Shiny Happy World applique quilt pattern featuring square blocks.
20 student limit.
Applique Made Extra Awesome
It’s like a quilt and a stuffed animal had a baby together. 🙂
This 6-hour workshop covers everything in the Applique Made Easy Workshop – plus lessons on adding 3D embellishments to your applique and working with specialty fabrics. Students will learn how to applique with fur, fleece, satin and shiny tissue lamĂ©, how to add googly eyes, flappy ears, springy curls, and more to their blocks.
20 student limit.
