We’re up to #9 in the Quilt As You Go series. In this video I show you how to quilt Square Squiggles – a fun adaptation of the loopy designs popular in free motion quilting.
You can make your rows of squiggles run across your block or up and down – it’s all good. Take a look at these sample blocks. You can click on any of them to see them bigger for more detail – a must on the one with the mottled batik background.
Now that you’ve seen some samples – here’s the video showing how.
See? Easy peasy. 🙂
As always – you can do this quilting before you do your applique – no matter what applique method you’re using. Fusible? Freezer paper? Needle-turn? It’s all good!

Happy quilting!
I like not having to fiddle with the feed dogs or adjusting tension in this style of ‘free motion’ quilting.
Do you use the back stitch feature on your machine to do the ‘reverse’ on the Square Squiggle quilting?
No – I just go forward the whole time. Too much backwards stitching makes my head hurt. 🙂
I just saw Quilt as you go, I understand how to quilt batting to top and join the squares but what comes next? How do you sew the backing on? and finish it?
It’s really just like any other quilt at that point – just layer on the backing and quilt around each block. You can see more details in this video
